It seems the only record Bollywood is aiming for isn’t to outdo each other with box-office collections. Over the years, a number of filmmakers, and stars, have tried to make it to the prestigious Guinness Book of World Records. The list includes names such as Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar.
While these actors have done films which have attempted to make their way intro record books in some way or the other, the latest, Vivek Oberoi, is trying to do the same with a charity effort. On September 6 (Saturday), through one of his welfare initiatives, Vivek is looking to “collect 1 lakh unit of blood for donation in just eight hours. I will be the first one to donate blood, for the cause and for the record,” says Vivek.
The actor considers that, if the record is achieved, more people will be encouraged to support the cause. "An entry into Guinness Book will surely encourage more people to donate blood. It will also set new benchmark for everyone,” Vivek adds.
Here’s a look at some of the previous attempts to create a world record:
Priyanka played 12 different characters in a not-so-successful film called What's Your Rashee? (2009). The makers, at the time had sent Priyanka’s name for a record consideration, for playing the most number of characters in a single film. The actor had said in an interview, “I guess, not just in India, but even in world cinema, no woman has ever played 12 different characters in a film… the producers of What's Your Raashee got in touch with the Guinness Book of World Records.”
The Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan-starrer Paa (2009) made headlines for making a record attempt. In September 2009, they came to know that it was the only film in the world where a real-life father-son duo reverses their on-screen characters, with the son playing the father and vice versa. “I do see that the castingis exceptional. It hasn’t been done in any part of the world. So yes, plans are afoot to enter Paa into the Guinness Book in various categories,” R Balki had said in an interview.
Akshay Kumar’s film Boss (2013), successfully broke a record associated with pop legend Michael Jackson. The film’s poster is the largest in the world at 58.87 m wide and 54.94 m high. It beat the record held by the 2009 documentary, This Is It. “It's a matter of honour. I thank everyone who made this possible,” Akshay had said in a statement.
